So, I read a lot. I decided to start keeping track of the books I read – partially as a challenge to myself to see if I could make 200. I read some truly excellent ones and some truly horrible ones. I really do recommend the ones I’ve bolded – but some of them may not be your particular passion. Also, don’t judge me for some of the fiction I chose. We all have our coping mechanisms. One of mine for graduate school is mindless reading.

40 over my goal! I think I’ll keep the goal at 200 for next year, knowing that much of my academic reading is articles and that pretty soon I’ll be writing more than reading. We’ll see how I’m doing by July though, and maybe tentatively raise it.
What are the best books you’ve read this year?
January 7, 2012 at 3:21 am
1) My first comment is that I read Nora Roberts for mindless fun, too, and I love her. Most of the time. I did not love the wedding girls quadrilogy, but I am really enjoying her newest “The Next Always” about the Boonsboro Inn boys.
In the meantime, I admire your dedication to the written word, Kristen, and additionally, i hope that I can stop reading novels long enough to write my dissertation.
2) My second comment is that I mostly skim the books I read for my PhD, not read them. So can I still count them if I make a list like this? I want to make a list and feel accomplished! (seriously, but I’d feel guilty unless you or one of my other friends says “skimming counts!”)
3) 240!?!?!?! That is OUTSTANDING.
4) I’m hoping to download a few of these and check them out this year. Will keep your list on hand.
